Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR2

The Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR2 is a maritime patrol aircraft developed by the United Kingdom and used by the British Royal Air Force (RAF). The aircraft was developed based on the de Havilland Comet, the world's first jet airliner, and can carry torpedoes, mines, bombs, sonobuoys for tracking submarines and even Sidewinder air-to-air missiles.

At the start of the Falklands War, Nimrods did not have air-to-air refuelling capability or the ability to carry Sidewinder missiles. These and other capabilities were quickly added at the start of the war.

Nimrods service during the war included patrolling the Total Exclusion Zone, and escorting the Black Buck missions. The idea in the latter case being that in the event that a Vulcan or Victor was forced to ditch into the sea, the Nimrod would be able to drop a marker buoy and life-saving equipment.
